Hazel Rowley Writings Collected in New Book
A collection of short pieces by Hazel Rowley, many of them previously unpublished, was released earlier in July in Australia by the Miegunah Press, an imprint of Melbourne University Publishing. Life as Art: The Biographical Writing of Hazel Rowley features some of Rowley’s insights on the challenges of writing biography. The book was edited by Lynn Buchanan and Della Rowley, the author’s sister. Hazel Rowley was the author of four critically acclaimed biographies; her subjects included Richard Wright and Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt. She was also a BIO enthusiast from its inception and a passionate advocate for the art and craft of biography. BIO awards an annual prize in her honor to a first-time biographer, to advance its mission and extend its reach to talented new practitioners.
