Bookshop.org Generates Millions for Indie Bookstores

Bookshop.org, the online alternative to Amazon geared toward independent bookstores, announced that it has given $15 million to U.S. bookstores since its launch early in 2020. In the United Kingdom, where Bookshop opened later, stores have received almost £1.5 million. Through Bookshop.org’s website, readers can buy books from a specific indie store, which then receives the full profit. Otherwise, the profits from purchases go into a pool that is distributed to all the stores that participate. Authors can also take part as affiliates and receive a 10 percent commission on the sale of their books or any others they choose to promote.
